The Story
Why it exists.
Kilian Hennessy grew up surrounded by cognac. His family's name is practically synonymous with French brandy. So when he launched his own fragrance house in 2007, he brought that spirits heritage with him. The Liquors collection, where Old Fashioned lives, is his most personal line yet. Each scent is inspired by a different spirit, but these aren't cocktail fragrances. They're interpretations of mood, memory, and the particular warmth of good company. Old Fashioned was created with perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur, who translated Kilian's brief for an 18-year-old single malt into something wearable.

The Beginning
What makes Old Fashioned interesting is what it doesn't do. It doesn't smell like bourbon. It doesn't smell like whisky on your skin. Instead, Sidonie Lancesseur captured the feeling of that spirit: the warmth that builds in your chest, the resinous depth that lingers, the way a good single malt feels like liquid time. Davana was a smart choice for the top. It's herbal, slightly anise-forward, and brings an edge that keeps the sweetness honest. Immortelle, often relegated to supporting roles, gets to stretch out here, bringing its honey-tobacco character into the heart.
The Evolution
The fragrance opens with surprising brightness. That davana and wheat combination hits first, lighter than you'd expect from Kilian. Then it settles, becoming creamier as the immortelle and cedar emerge. The drydown is where Old Fashioned earns its name. The tolu and styrax create something that feels aged, worn, comfortable. Six hours in, there's still a warmth on the skin, though it retreats close. On fabric, it lasts longer, occasionally surprising you the next morning.
Cultural Impact
By Kilian fragrances have become status symbols in the fragrance community. Old Fashioned joins a collection that includes some of the house's most beloved scents, carrying the weight of Single Malt's legacy while carving its own path. It's a sophisticated, refined take on the whisky-inspired genre that appeals to those who appreciate understated luxury and the art of restraint.

The Creator
Sidonie LancesseurBy Kilian launched in 2007, founded by Kilian Hennessy, descendant of the famous cognac family. Rather than rest on heritage, he built a fragrance house known for luxury, dark aesthetics, and spirits-inspired creations. The Liquors collection is his most personal, each scent a memory of a particular drink or drinking moment.

The weight of a Glencairn glass, the crackle before the pour. Warm, woody, with an herbal lift that keeps it from being heavy. Think late-night conversations that matter, a fire that's burned down to embers.
