The Story
Why it exists.
The 2007 Les Infusions de Prada collection represents something different for the house. Under Miuccia Prada's creative direction, these fragrances were designed to smell like skin that has absorbed a single ingredient over time. Daniela Andrier composed Infusion d'Iris around this concept, the idea of the fragrant infusion rather than the constructed perfume. The name itself nods to an old method of producing iris extract, one that required six months of soaking before the sweetly fresh iris notes could be drawn out. The bottle, with its green-tinted glass and Saffiano cap, reinforces this sense of something extracted and concentrated rather than manufactured.

The Beginning
The iris used here is Iris pallida, one of the most expensive materials in perfumery. The root must dry for three years before any extraction can occur, and the resulting absolute costs more by weight than gold. This is why iris reads as the undeniable star here, not because it's loud, but because it demanded patience to include at all. The neroli and mandarin in the top notes serve a specific purpose: they preserve the cold, slightly metallic quality of iris rather than warming it. The benzoin and incense in the base create that second-skin effect that defines the Infusion line, fragrances meant to smell like they belong to you, not like you applied something.
The Evolution
The opening lasts longer than expected. Neroli and mandarin hold court for a solid twenty minutes before the iris begins to reveal itself. This gradual transition is part of what makes it feel so natural on skin. By the 45-minute mark, the galbanum has softened and the iris sits close and powdery, almost cool. Hours two through four are its peak, quiet, elegant, unmistakably iris. The cedar announces itself around hour five, dry and fine, threading through everything. By hour seven, the benzoin takes over, warm and slightly sweet. Incense whispers at the edges, never loud. On fabric, this fragrance lasts two days. Still soft. Still recognizable. Still yours.
Cultural Impact
The Infusion d'Iris won the FiFi Award for Fragrance of the Year Women's Nouveau Niche in 2008, establishing it as a defining scent for the niche fragrance movement. It demonstrated that iris could be the absolute protagonist of a fragrance without being drowned in supporting notes. The fragrance also established Prada's Infusion line as a serious contender in the niche market, competing directly with established houses like Serge Lutens and Diptyque.
The House
Italy · Est. 1913
Prada's fragrances are the olfactory equivalent of its fashion: intelligent, unexpectedly classic, and beautifully restrained. The house masterfully reinterprets traditional perfumery codes with a clean, modernist sensibility. Its scents are less about overt seduction and more about a quiet, confident intellectualism.
The Creator
Daniela AndrierPrada was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada as a leather goods shop in Milan. The house became known for its understated luxury and intellectual approach to fashion. Miuccia Prada, Mario's granddaughter, took over in 1978 and transformed the brand into a global luxury powerhouse while maintaining its reputation for thoughtful design. The Infusion line represents a different side of Prada, fragrances meant to smell like memory and absorption rather than construction.

The scent moves like ambient electronic music. Quiet. Present. It doesn't fill the room so much as it makes the room aware of itself. The opening sparkles like synthesized arpeggios before settling into a warm, sustained chord that lasts for hours.
