    The Story of Argania

Argania, the nutty heart of Morocco’s argan tree, offers a warm, woody note that anchors blends with subtle sweetness and a whisper of earth, inviting discovery in every spray.

    Heritage

Berber communities of southwestern Morocco have prized argan oil for more than a thousand years, using it to protect skin from the harsh desert climate and to seal leather goods. Early traders carried argan oil across the Sahara, where it reached Mediterranean markets as a luxury balm. In the 20th century, French colonial explorers introduced argan oil to Parisian salons, and perfumers began experimenting with its warm, nutty aroma. By the 1990s, argania absolute entered niche fragrance houses, adding a distinctive woody depth to modern compositions. Today, argan’s heritage links ancient desert survival techniques with contemporary perfume artistry, illustrating a continuous thread of cultural and sensory value.

    Did You Know

"Berber women have pressed argan kernels by hand for centuries, and a single mature tree can yield enough oil for a year's supply of cosmetics from just its kernels."

    Production

    How Argania Is Made

Harvesters climb argan trees in late summer and collect ripe fruit. Workers spread the fruit on sun‑warmed mats, allowing the pulp to dry naturally for several days. Once dry, they crack the hardened shells by hand, releasing the glossy kernels inside. Press operators feed the kernels into a cold‑press machine that extracts a clear, amber oil in under ten minutes. For fragrance applications, perfumers often subject the remaining press cake to solvent extraction, producing a thick concrete that is then washed with ethanol to yield a fragrant absolute. The final argania absolute retains the nutty, woody character of the oil while concentrating volatile aromatics for use in perfume compositions.
