Anne Flipo trained at the ISIP perfumery school in Versailles, where a revelation sparked her lifelong obsession with fragrance. She apprenticed under masters including Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Jean Kerléo, absorbing the rigorous fundamentals of formulation before joining IFF in 2004. Over three and a half decades, she has built a body of work spanning mass-market phenomena and niche masterworks, from the worldwide hit La Vie est Belle to the startlingly green Synthetic Jungle. She counts herself among the first women to reach the industry's upper echelons, yet remains guided by a single ambition: transmission. Her collaboration with Dominique Ropion, most notably on Lady Million, represents a meeting of minds between two technically formidable perfumers who share a refusal to settle for the obvious.
Philosophy
Anne Flipo describes creating a fragrance as a game and a challenge. Since joining IFF in 2000, he has built compositions by testing extreme doses of powerful ingredients, then carefully calibrating subtler accords until the whole structure achieves equilibrium. He takes risks deliberately, seeking that precise moment when a fragrance becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
