The Story
Why it exists.
In 2016, Zadig & Voltaire dropped a pair of fragrances, This is Her for her, This is Him for him. The slogan said it all: "This is Zadig!" Two bottles, cracked edges, white and black. The brand wanted a balance the market hadn't seen. Clean, the artistic director said. But also darker. More mysterious. That tension became This is Her. Perfumers Sidonie Lancesseur and Michel Almairac built it around an unexpected combination: jasmine sambac, chestnut cream, vanilla, sandalwood. Woody, floral, gourmand. The notes don't behave like they should, and that's the point.

The Beginning
Chestnut cream is the pivot point in this composition. Chestnut brings a nutty, warmer, slightly roasted quality, and it gives the vanilla something to lean into without amplifying the sweetness into syrup. The whipped texture keeps it airy, cream that hasn't thickened yet. Pink pepper opens clean, then jasmine sambac brings a tropical softness that tempers the spice before it gets sharp. By the time sandalwood arrives, the whole thing has settled into something skin-close and warm. Cashmeran adds that synthetic-musky warmth that smells like the inside of a cashmere sweater. Not projecting.
The Evolution
It opens bright. Pink pepper, that clean citrus-adjacent spice, quick and alert. Jasmine sambac softens the entrance within minutes, bringing a floral sweetness that warms the top without competing. The transition to the heart is the tell. Whipped chestnut cream arrives slow, blending nuttiness and sweetness into something almost edible. Vanilla settles underneath, rounding the edges. Then sandalwood and cashmeran take over. Not a dramatic handoff. The creaminess lingers, but everything gets quieter, closer to the skin. What stays is warmth. A soft, powdery warmth that someone wearing this on a Tuesday in November would reach for again.
Cultural Impact
This is Her occupies a space where warmth and sweetness meet without tipping into intimidation or guilt. Chestnut cream gives it a specific nutty warmth that regular vanilla simply cannot claim, and this note anchors the entire fragrance. For those drawn to sweet compositions but wary of something too heady, the chestnut cream keeps things grounded while jasmine sambac and sandalwood ensure the warmth lingers close to the skin. It offers the comfort of something sweet without becoming cloying, and the nuance of something complex without demanding attention.

The scent moves from something bright and alert to something warm and close. A playlist that starts clean, then settles into soft warmth. Etherial electronic textures give way to warm piano and velvety vocals. Intimate, not loud, like a conversation in a quiet room.
