The Story
Why it exists.
The name says it all. Floral Fields of Ireland, a perfumer's memory of standing in an Irish meadow at peak bloom, when every wildflower seems to bloom simultaneously. Nelly Hachem-Ruiz built this fragrance around the idea of floral abundance: not one note at a time, but every white and yellow bloom at once. The result is a Cologne that earns the word Intense in its name. Launched in 2019 as part of the Acqua Colonia Intense collection, it takes 4711's signature citrus structure and layers it under a garden's worth of florals, osmanthus and mandarin opening bright, jasmine and blackwood mimosa taking over the heart, cedar and sandalwood anchoring the base.

The Beginning
The combination of osmanthus and blackwood mimosa is what makes this floral composition unusual. Osmanthus brings a tea-like, apricot sweetness that feels more Chinese meadow than European garden. Blackwood mimosa adds a warm, powdery depth that rounds out what could have been a purely airy scent. Together with jasmine and neroli, they form a white floral heart that's lush without being heavy. The base, Operanide, cedarwood, sandalwood, keeps everything grounded in soft woods rather than musk or amber, which gives the drydown a clean, modern finish.
The Evolution
The opening hits bright and immediate. Mandarin and lemon arrive like sunshine through glass, sharp, clean, sparkling. The osmanthus adds an unexpected apricot-floral sweetness that softens the citrus before it gets too tart. Within twenty minutes, the heart takes over. Jasmine and neroli rise first, then the blackwood mimosa settles in with its warm, powdery presence. This is the meadow itself, not the view of the meadow, but standing in it. The drydown shifts to cedarwood and sandalwood, with Operanide keeping the florals present but skin-close. By evening, it's intimate and soft, barely there, but what remains is warm and pleasant. On fabric, a whisper of jasmine and cedar sometimes reappears the next morning.
Cultural Impact
4711 traces its roots to the original Eau de Cologne house, established in 1792 in Germany. The Acqua Colonia Intense collection launched around 2015, marking the brand's push into richer, more concentrated formulas designed to last longer than their classic line. Floral Fields of Ireland joined the Intense range in 2019, fitting into a broader movement in modern perfumery toward lighter, more refined floral compositions. The use of osmanthus, a flower cherished in Chinese perfumery, adds a cross-cultural dimension, reflecting how contemporary fragrance houses blend Eastern and Western traditions.
The House
Germany · Est. 1845
Mäurer & Wirtz stands as one of Germany's most storied fragrance houses, tracing its roots back to 1845 when two visionaries, Michael Mäurer and his stepson Andreas August Wirtz, established a modest soapworks in the town of Stolberg near Aachen. Today, the company operates as a globally active fragrance and care conglomerate, managing an impressive portfolio that spans prestige fragrances, mass-market beauty products, and heritage colognes. Under the stewardship of the fifth-generation Wirtz family, currently led by co-CEOs Dr. Hermann Wirtz and Fabian Krone, the company has grown from its humble beginnings into a significant player in the scent industry. The brand portfolio includes the legendary 4711 Original Eau de Cologne, the iconic Tabac Original line, Baldessarini, and Windsor, alongside licensed fragrances for s.Oliver, Otto Kern, and Betty Barclay. With headquarters still rooted in Stolberg and a workforce of approximately 400, Mäurer & Wirtz exemplifies how a family business can evolve across nearly two centuries while maintaining its artisanal heritage and German engineering precision.

An Irish meadow at golden hour. The warmth of mandarin and the quiet confidence of cedar and jasmine. It's soft, but it stays with you, the way wild honeysuckle does on a long summer evening. Music that lingers without needing to be loud.
